This is a toughie, but ultimately following your heart is generally the best idea. If your significant other isn't the love of your life, you're going to end up feeling crappy and possibly cheating, which just creates one hell of a situation. If you love your partner as well...then you just gotta weigh up the pros and cons of staying in your current relationship or pursuing a new one. Breaking up is hard, and it does hurt, but it hurts less than stringing someone along and letting them invest more in a relationship where you'd rather be investing with someone else. Of course, if the person you love doesn't love you back, then you'll be hurt, but never just settle for someone because you feel you can't get the person you really love. You deserve to be happy. *hugs*
